Hi Laurence,  Glad you&#039;re enjoying the articles. It seems I made a mess of the pin numbering!! I&#039;ve now updated my post with a new version of Fig 6 that should be correct.

pin on the OLIMEX ESP8266 and checked my board and the GND pin is pin 2 on the UEXT 
connector. PIN 1 being shown as 3.3V. My board is an OLIMEX ESP8266-EVB-BAT so may be its different ?
